Simplifying the Workstation

Efficiency and effectiveness in command center operations are directly tied to a minimalist workspace and purpose-built operator display and control system solutions. Excess can lead to difficulty in completing even the simplest tasks or visualizing the right pieces of information. Key design considerations revolve around decluttering your workstation, how to enhance human-machine interaction, increase operator alertness, and improve productivity, including identifying power and data distribution requirements, system integration with and management of overview video walls, interaction with PCs and all AV devices, collaboration needs, display orientations, specialized equipment considerations, and even remote user access capabilities.

For example, aligning daily workflows with the ideal screen arrangements and intuitive control interfaces with features innate to specific mission-critical duties will reduce information overload and cognitive load that can lead to distractions, particularly if the configuration involves integrated tools for task automation. Also, utilizing multi-purpose personal headsets for easy, one-touch communications consolidates functions and offers flexibility.

Our design and integration experts often work with control center staff to adopt a “less is more” approach with single keyboards and mice, which not only declutters work surfaces but also enhances productivity and operator well-being, decreases stress levels, and improves security by reducing touchpoints and network exposure. What’s more, incorporating KVM switching solutions can further streamline workstation management by essentially consolidating separate streams for important source information and computing systems into an easy-to-manage control platform.
